Emotional Regulation

Emotional regulation is the skill of managing and responding to our emotions in a healthy and safe way. It helps individuals manage triggers, make thoughtful decisions, and improve overall well-being. This involves developing coping strategies e.g. deep breathing, mindfulness, building emotional awareness, creating routine and structures, enhancing problem solving skills and using adaptive tools e.g. fidget toys.

Occupational therapists use various strategies to target emotional regulation, tailored to each individual’s needs.
